Cricket was played here before it became in the United States. The history of United States cricket started in the 18th century. Among early Americans, cricket was as famous a bat and ball game as baseball. Though Americans never played cricket in great numbers, the game grew for some time and historical records as early as 1709 have documented its existence.
1709
William Byrd, owner of the Westover Plantation in Virginia, noted in his diary for 6 May 1709: “I rose about 6 o’clock and Colonel Ludwell, Nat Harrison, Mr. Edwards and myself played at cricket, and I won a bit.
1751
The first public report of a cricket match in North America, when the New York Gazette and the Weekly Post Boy carried an account of a match between a London “eleven” and one from New York City.
1754
Benjamin Franklin brought a copy of the 1744 Laws – cricket’s official rule book back from England.
1778
There is anecdotal evidence that George Washington’s troops played what they called “wickets” at Valley Forge in the summer.
1783
After the American Revolution, England become disapparead but cricket slowly was gaining popularity. By the mid-1800s cricket was played in 22 states by up to a thousand of cricket clubs.
1786
An commercial advertisement for cricket tools was showed in the New York Independent Journal.
1793

1833
Collegiate cricket clubs was established in Haverford College, Pennsylvania.
1844
The first match between the USA and Canada was played on 24 and 26 September 1844 at the St George’s Club of New York.
1849
Abraham Lincoln showed up a match of cricket billed between Chicago and Milwaukee
1859
On 3-5 October the first international game was played between England and United States XXII at Hoboken, New Jersey, England scored 156 and dismissing the USA XXII for 38 and 54

Cricket was by far the biggest sport in America in this period,” says Tim Lockley, an expert in American history at Warwick University. “Then the civil war started in 1861, just when it was reaching its peak of popularity. The cricket became a victim of that war.
1861 to 1865
Cricket’s growth reduced due to civil war and baseball became more popular in camps. It also only took a couple of hours to complete rather than several days.

The Australian XI captain D. W. Gregory, after finishing its first tour of England, met Philadelphia on 3, 4 and 5 October

The Philadelphians visited England for the first time.
1905
The first MCC Team (Marylebone Cricket Club) of London toured USA and Canada.
1919
After the First World War, interest in cricket faded and interest in baseball drowned cricket because of Babe Ruth’s exploits in the 1920s
1929
The final copy of “The American Cricketer” Magazine was released.
1932
An Australian touring side including the legend Donald Bradman toured North America.
1963
The Auty Cup rivalry between USA and Canada restarted in Toronto after a 51-year break which Canada won by an innings at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club
1965
The USA became an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
1979
The USA participated in the ICC Trophy for the first time.
1987
USA won 7 out of 8 league matches at the 1986 ICC Trophy in England, however, narrowly missed out on net-run rate for the semi-finals in a competition that Zimbabwe proceeded to win and qualify from.
1994
USA had gone through the final of the Plate Competition in the 1994 ICC Trophy took place in Kenya having been knocked out of the group stages due to a narrow 3-wicket defeat to Bangladesh.
1999
In September of 1999, a series of five 50-over games between Australia A and India A took place in Woodley Park in Los Angeles. Australia won the series 5 – 0
2001
The USA completed a best-ever 6th place at the ICC Trophy held in Canada, narrowly missing out on a place in the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup
2004
The USA participated in the ICC Champions Trophy after winning the ICC Six Nations competition.
2006
USA qualified for the 2006 U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka by virtue of winning the ICC Americas U19 Championship in 2005. They were knocked out by New Zealand in the Plate Championship Semi-Final, and Pakistan was the tournament champion.
2010
USA participated in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier for the first time and despite a big win in their opening match, they come up short of the ‘Super 4’ phase of the tournament that was hosted in the UAE.
2011
USA Women compete in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier for the first time and despite a thrilling 1-run win over Zimbabwe, they fail to qualify from the group stages of the event in Bangladesh.
2013
The USA finished bottom of their group in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2013.
2015
For the first time, USA Players got picked up in the Caribbean Premier League draft as part of a partnership with ICC Americas.
2017
The USA won the Auty Cup back from Canada in Toronto, defeating 2-1 to claim the trophy for the first time in 26 years.
