Carol Andrea Kevichusa was born in the city of Kohima, Nagaland, she is the daughter of Angami Naga and Ao Naga, both of whom are well-respected members of their respective communities. Kevichusa’s mixed ancestry – with roots in the Angami and Mizo communities – has played a significant role in shaping her identity and cultural background. She is the youngest of five daughters.

Struggles In The Industry
During a recent interview with DNA India, Carol Andrea Kevichüsa recalled an incident in which someone asked her when she was going back to her “country,” seemingly unaware that Nagaland is a state in India.
She said,
“I was probably about 16 years of age and I remember telling the makeup artist that I have a flight to Nagaland and I am dying to go back home because I miss being with my parents. And she was like, ‘Oh is it? When are you going back to your country?’ I was really taken aback because she didn’t really know that Nagaland is a part of India.”
During the same interview, Kevichusa expressed her frustration with the idea that people from certain parts of India are often asked to “prove” their nationality or identity.
She pointed out that nationality should not be determined by appearance or language, and that being born in India is sufficient proof of nationality. Kevichusa emphasized that it is wrong to expect people from Nagaland or other states in India to prove their identity or belonging to the rest of the country and that it is a disservice to the diversity and unity of India.
