Unnati Hooda, a 14-year-old wonder Indian badminton player, was born on 20 September 2007 in Rohtak (Haryana). She made headlines after becoming the nation’s youngest badminton player who won a Super 100 competition.

Early Life

In childhood, Unnati Hooda used to play badminton at school and occasionally with her father’s supervision. Her Father made Unnati play with his brother in his spare time. But with time, he began to see Unnati’s potential and went on to become one of India’s finest youngest badminton players.

Unnati Hooda began practicing at the Chotu Ram Stadium in Rohtak at the age of 8 with Coach Parvesh Kumar.

At the Infosys India International Challenge 2021, Unnati Hooda made her senior debut and placed second in her maiden major competition.

The biggest victory for Unnati was the 24-22, 24-22 victory against senior player Malvika Bansod in the Odisha Open semifinals. This was the first time that Unnati Hooda’s playing style was discussed by fans and badminton experts. She defeated top player Malvika Bansod, who had earlier defeated Saina Nehwal in the Indian Open.

In an interview following her victory over Malvika, Unnati said,

“Match se Pehle Maine Sirf yeh Socha tha ki mujhe apna best Dena hai.”

When She Met PM Modi

When PM Modi interacted with the badminton champions of the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup. The 14-year-old Unnati Hooda, while sharing her experience during a meeting with PM Modi, said

“What motivates me the most is that you never discriminate between medallists and non-medallists. I have learned a lot in this tournament. Next time, the women’s team also has to win”

Awards & Achievements

2021- Won Gold in Khelo India Youth Games defeating Tasnim 2-1

2022 – Won the Super 100 tournament beating Smit Toshniwal in Odisha open 2022

2022 – Won the U19 girls singles crown. In an all-Haryana summit clash, Unnati shocked fifth seed Devika Sihag 23-21, 14-21, 21-19 in a match that lasted more than an hour.
